Spyros Meletzis (1906-2003)
Born in Agioi Theodoroi, Imvros Island, Greece. He took up photography in the hands of Alexandros Panagiotou in Alexandroupoli and photographer Georgios Boukas the palace, in whose studio he worked when he arrived in Athens in 1927. In 1937, sweeping the region of Epirus taking photographs for twenty months. In the years of the Italian-German occupation he traveled to the Peloponnese, Macedonia and Evrytania to photograph the antifascist resistance. In December 1944, at the dawn of the post-civil war, he was taken prisoner during the battle of Makrygianni and sent to a concentration camp in Eldaba (Africa), from which he returned after the signing of the Varkiza.
